Education Visa (Non-Immigrant ED)

Education Visa (Non-Immigrant ED)

For foreigners who want to stay long-term by enrolling in a recognized educational institution, such as a language school, university, or approved training center [1.3.1].

Key Requirements

  • Enrollment: Must have an official acceptance or enrollment letter from a school approved by the Thai Ministry of Education [1.3.1].
  • Genuine Study: Immigration strictly monitors attendance. You are generally required to maintain at least 80% attendance, and schools must submit monthly status reports [1.3.2]. Failing to attend classes can result in immediate visa cancellation [1.3.2].
  • The “One-Language” Rule: You cannot study the same language at the same level indefinitely. For example, after completing a Thai language course, you must usually switch to a different language (like English or Japanese) to renew your visa [1.3.2].
  • Financial Proof: Often requires showing the equivalent of 20,000 THB during the application process [1.3.2].

Visa Rules & Stay

  • Duration: Typically grants a 90-day initial stay, which is then extended throughout the duration of your course (usually up to 1 year at a time) [1.3.2].
  • Work Restrictions: Employment is strictly prohibited. This includes unpaid work, volunteering, and freelancing for Thai clients [1.3.2].
  • New 2026 Digital Rules: The paper TM6 arrival card has been replaced by the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC), which you must register for within 72 hours before arriving in the country [1.3.2].
